15 Ways to You Can Support Gotham City Kitties (cont'd)

9. Don't Be Part of the Problem
Take care of you cats, make sure they stay inside, are fed, loved and kept happy and safe. Honor your commitment to life of your cat(s), no matter what life throws your way. One of the most common reasons cats are given to GCK are moving, getting married, or having a baby. Do what you need to do to keep your little furbaby from ending up in a rescue or shelter and you will help stop the overcrowding.

10. Spay or Neuter Your Pet
By simply taking responsibility for spaying or neutering your own dog or cat, not only are you are doing your part in the fight against pet overpopulation, but spaying/neutering will extend the life of your pet, eliminate marking, and reduce aggression.

11. Educate Your Friends and Neighbors
Educate people about the advantages of adopting a pet from a rescue group instead of buying from a pet store or breeder. Remember: Adopting from a Rescue Group or the City Pound Saves Precious Lives! Let them know about the joys of Fostering, helping another Cat find a loving home.

12. Help Us Market Our Cats
Hang fliers everywhere you shop, work and play; yoga studios, pet stores, vet offices, grocery stores, your office bulletin board, book stores, etc.*  Any where that will let you put them up inside only.  All you have to do is download a flyer, print it out in color, and you are good to go.  Carry them with you.  You will be amazed how such a small thing can increase the amount of cats that find homes.  Downloadable flyers will change periodically to showcase upcoming events and new babies for adoption so check back often.

* Flyers must be hung indoors with the consent of the business.  It is illegal to post them outdoors and we will be fined.  So please be conscious of this.

13. Spread the Word About GCK’s Cats for Adoption
This is the easiest item on the list! If you have a website, use it! Help others find a pet to adopt by placing a link to Gotham City Kitties' adoptable pets link. This works, even if you don't think you have much traffic to your site. Ask everyone you know to post a link or a search box on his or her sites, too. Also, social PETworking saves lives. Post a link to GCK on your Facebook page or TwitterACritter (http://TwitterACritter.com) and you’ll spread the word about specific Cats or Kittens to hundreds or even thousands of people instantly!

14. Plan Ahead
Leave instructions to make sure your animals are taken care of as well.  It seems simple enough, but many senior Cats and Dogs are surrendered because their owners passed away and no plans were made. In addition, leave a legacy for animals by remembering homeless animals in your will.

15. Support Our Ferals
Feral Cats are cats that are not socialized to humans. Because of their fear of humans they cannot be adopted into homes. We are committed to these furbabies as well. You can support these as well by donating winter shelters, food and your warm apartment or basement for our ferals to recover after they are spay/neutered.
